3rd Generation Top end noise

How noisy are your 2.2 engines out there in CamryLand? Mine almost sounds like a diesel especially when it's fully warmed up. Is that a worn valvetrain or a valve lash adjustment issue?

Or is it a loose exhaust manifold?

If it were exhaust, it would sound the same cold or hot. It's probably valves that need adjusted.....but no way to know from what you described. How many miles?

Not me I like my cars (other than a performance car) to purr quietly and run super smooth.

You could adjust the valves, but they require shims (of potentially different sizes). I kind of like Hondas better because you can adjust them without shims.

But it's probably not worth it, just make sure your oil is at the proper level, and maybe use a heavier grade.

I agree with you because I looked into getting a valve lash adjustment done and it's pricey at about $300, and yeah they have to get the right shims. So at this mileage I'll have to think about an expense like that. It doesn't really do it when you are above a 1000 rpm. Car runs fine really.

btw I found this thread from 05 referring to what I'm talking about:

synthetic oil
