3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I saw a lot of people do this on this forum, but I can't find any tutorials anywhere. I'm about to retrofit projectors so I'm trying to find a way to make my lenses clear.
I originally thought it was just a matter of sanding the pattern off, but I noticed the nipples go all the way through the plastic so it's impossible to get the nipples off completely.
Could somebody please point me in the right direction, thanks.
sigh* I have looked. Did you even read that topic link and my topic post?
That topic you linked me to just tells you about the sanding process, it doesn't explain how to remove the nipples. That's the issue that nobody seems to explain.
^^ it can fit with some modding. get a gen 3 (92-94) grille, trim the bumper and and i think it was relocate the brackets (not too sure on that one).

ah ... you have a Gen3.5 (95-96) .... they have different headlights, grille, front bumper, rear center panel (and some other stuff) than the Gen 3 (92-94)
so they dont sell clear lenses for our cars, however ... PM "greg cheban" here on TN, because he is thinking about making some custom lenses for the Gen 3.5 (probably at $90)
if not, you have to sand them like in the DIY, but you dont need to get rid of the little nipples

The nipples is where the machine finished molding the plastic -- I think. I'll probably try to sand them down myself first, but if I mess it up then I'll definitely contact greg cheban. Alright though, you've all been really helpful and thanks is in store. You guys here at TN have been more helpful than the guys at the other forums I've been to (even hidplanet). Thanks a lot!
I'll post some pics here when I finish my retrofits.
I'm going to be using a pair of Clear TSX Projectors + MDX Shrouds with an OEM BMW HID system bigobird sold me here on TN. I still haven't decided whether to do partially retro or no retro. It's something I'm going to have to experiment to see what looks best. I'm up for recommendations though.
You can probably find a good quality HID kit like mine for about 100-250. Projectors+shrouds aren't very expensive (about 70), but if you want the good ones I suggest the TSX projectors, which run about $150 out the door (the best quality ones are about 400-600 and TSX is right below them). Only problem: finding shrouds to fit the TSX projectors is tough. MSX are the best, but they cost about 70.
Altogether, it's about a $300-400 upgrade depending on how fortunate you are. Not to mention the time it takes to mount/clear your headlights. If you can do this though then it's a really great upgrade and makes your car unique.
