Canada Lack of Accelleration

Hello...My fiance has a 1996 Toyota Camry, 4 cylinder with a 5 speed manual transmission. I have not really driven her car, but a few months ago she told me that her car seemed to be revving, but not picking up when she was accelerating on the highway. She told me that the problem happened after her car was not used for a few weeks. She also told me that the problem went away after a few kilometers of driving.

Today I drove her car and I felt the problem first hand. The car picks up in first and second, but once in 3rd and above I can press the gas pedal and the tachometer just starts revving higher, but there is little to no accelleration. The car does eventually pick up speed, but you really have to drive a long way before it goes.

I just put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the fuel tank to see if that may help the issue, but I have a feeling that it's going to be a bigger problem.

Has anyone had this type of problem with their manual transmission Camry? Any help would be much appreciated. She is using the car to drive our newborn around the city and I don't want them being stranded!!

What would be the fix to this if it is the clutch slipping? Will a tranny flush possibly help?

She won't be driving it long like that, I agree , It's the clutch. look on spending about $700 to replace the clutch , pressure plate, release bearing, and turn the flywheel. while they are in there, go ahead and replace the rear main engine seal too. that way you won't have to do it all again later.

on a manual , you can't flush anything, all you can do is drain and refill and that has absolutely no effect on the clutch itself.

Yep. It's a slipping clutch. I don't know how many kilometers on the car but if she needs a lot of clutch pedal travel to engage it, then it's time for a clutch job.
