3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My 95 Camry didn't want to start one morning i thought that the battery was low so i jumped it...it work perfectly but when i turned off the the car i found out it hadn't charged. I thought it was the starter cause I just heard a click so I replaced the starter. It turned out the started was ok so the only logical thing was either the battery or the altenator, the alternator worked good after taking out the battery brackets when the car was on. So I went to replace the battery.
I was so stupid and made a mistake when installing the battery, I touched the positive side with the negative side it created a spark.
Now the gauges, igniton, radio, back and stop lights do not light up, turn signals as well, and am not able to put the car on neutral in order to move it. When I turn the ignition on only the door sign lights up on the clusters, the headlights are able to turn on and hazards lights work and my foglights as well as the dome light.
I replaced all the fuse in the box by the engine and the ones inside the car at the left side of the steering wheel.
Would you guys help me out? Why doesn't my car able to shift to neutral? What do u think it happen and what can i do?? what would be the cost?
It's probably the 100A alternator fuse ... which engine do you have?
Does the engine start?
There is a shift lock circuit .... powered by several fuse/relays that may be the cause of the shifter not working .... not sure about manual override ..might be in owner's manual.

Am looking around to find it. Did you say is by the passenger side? by the shifter...am alittle bit lost here.
This day sucks
It sounds like it is located on the fender .... driver's side. ... Either under the battery tray or the air inlet duct ..... It will be a sort of fuse box though... probably with some clasps to allow it to be opened.

I don't have the manual for my car...Do u guys think that I may be able to put it on neutral before replacing the fuse or would i have to purchase it prior to do it. Is it a securty system on this cars that locks also the shifter?
I checked the fuse for the radio, ignition, wipers and gauges and they were passing good electrical current....
Here is a similar situation .... see posts #10 and #12. ... V6, but maybe similar to I4.
Also, possibility that something else may be defective ... after you fix the fuse. New Battery - Won't Start

If you think you can fix it yourself it will be 10 times cheaper than the dealer....
Usually somebody around on the forum page to give you advice .... some better than others ...
