The car in question is a '92 Camry, with the 5SFE engine, the little 4 cylinder. The car belongs to my daughter, so I'm not overly familiar with it. The problem is that there is no heat to the passenger compartment.
I've just read the last previous posting on this subject:
Heater Not Working
and found some good pointers. Last posting was about a week ago.
The engine is warming up to normal operating temps well and quickly. Its not a bad thermostat. The only outward indication of a problem is that the temperature control twist knob, the one with the red and blue markings, does not have full travel. It should have about 250* of travel. It has about 45*. If I unhook the cable from the (I believe) heater control valve (high on the engine side of the firewall, drivers side) there is still very limited travel. With the cable disconnected I can move the valve and get just a very faint suggestion of warmth. How many degrees of travel should there be on the heater control valve?
How should I proceed on this? Should I be looking first at the control valve or the twist knob which operates the control valve? Based on the experience of the board members, how should I proceed?
As always, I appreciate help and suggestions.
