Replacing '94 AC Clutch

It has become obvious that the AC clutch on my 94 Camry has self-destructed. The AC pulley was a little crooked when I got the car and I knew it was in trouble. But now the pulley is very crooked, doesn't move at all and burns the belt.

I have a used replacement compressor and clutch on the way - but I'd really like to just install the clutch and keep the compressor for the future.

Problem is - I cannot figure out how to get the pulley bolt out of the end of the compressor shaft. There's a collar there that turns when I try to loosen the bolt, and i cannot get a grip on it because of a raised ring that surrounds it. Stupid design.

I'm also expecting that if/when I do succeed in loosening the bolt, the collar will then spin and I still won't be able to get it the rest of the way out of the shaft.

Ideas??

If you can download the AC section of the Gen 3 repair manual .... p. 41 shows that two sst's ... 'special service tools' are used to remove the clutch pressure plate .... Also, the manual shows that the compressor is removed from the car. .... One of the sst's is bolt like item, and the other is a 'clutch stopping tool' .... If this doesn't help... find a local auto ac shop.

yeah, i didnt use the sst's and damaged my hub/clutch on my 1mzfe after it was done being regasketed/rebuilt internally. so i opted for a new rebuilt unit. that stuff sucks. and time consuming. if you need a rebuilt compressor, go to ACkits.com. correct amount of fluid is already in there, pretty much plug and play, with the exception of the switch, which was removed from original unit.
goodluck

Well - I got it apart. The SST wouldn't have helped because the ring with the 3 studs that the tool held wasn't welded to the pressure (end) plate anymore.

I just latched onto the rim of the pressure plate with vice grips, held them with 11" channellocks, and then loosened the center bolt. It went fairly smoothly after that.

Wow - the bearings and races of the pulley had parted company - hence the crooked and seized pulley. The stator was a ruined mess of frayed and broken wires - explaining the blown AC (& windows and dash) fuses.

What a mess...
