Rims with big lips an advantag?

What is the advantage of getting a rim with a big lip instead of one with none. I think that the rim with the lip have a greater chance of bending. Is that true? I am planning to get a silver 17 inch 6 or 8 spoke rim on the 99.

It's a styling thing, not much more. In a laboratory the lip wheel might be a weaker, but in a Camry there's no way you're going to test the limits of that wheel.............Unless you plan on ramming curbs!
