Well this isn't right

I did a VIN check and decode on my mom's 98 Toyota Camry. Everything seemed normal except for one part. The transmission listed for the VIN is a 5 speed manual. My mom's car is a 4 speed automatic.

Can anyone tell me which character in the VIN designates the transmission and which character is for the manual and which is for the automatic?

This last one is kinda cool, from Toyota, lets you type in your VIN and gives you real-time feedback as to what it means.

Well it confirmed that the car is in fact a Toyota Camry, 4 cyl, built in Georgetown KY with two air bags. Problem is I don't know where the 5 speed manual is coming from.

This and the fact that VIN history report sites are reporting between 8 and 12 hits on my mom's Camry bothers me.

Toyota VINs do not reference transmission type.

Some VIN checkers may try to associate engine/trans combos based on engine and model codes contained within VIN.
