3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
^ you cant compare the quality of K-Sports (that youve never used) to the quality of JIC-Magic (that you currently use)
JIC-Magic is up there with Megan Racing and other high-end coilovers .... you would be hard-pressed to find someone who has snapped those while racing
im just presenting the facts - multiple people have had issues with K-Sport & D2 Coilovers ... not to mention that even if you didnt have problems, Coilovers often place you in a higher class (might catch a break if you have NO other mods and youre driving a Slamry) ... i know some local Nissan guys that wont use K-Sports because they have a bad rep [they were surprised this summer when i told them K-Sports were basically #1 choice in the Camry world]

^^^^ He's right about that but I think the Maxima crowd got it the worse since they blow coilovers left and right but the funny thing is I haven't heard anyone really blowing theirs on the Camry. Maybe the design of the Camry compared to other cars makes the coilovers last longer, I dont know just talking out of my ass but you got to wonder that. If that's the case +1 for Toyota lol...
well maybe when you have a car with 34825745 options cheaper then that is a possibility and you can be so picky, but with the camry he really doesnt have a choice. I just know K-sports customer service and I really dont think his car is going to fall apart if he autocrosses with them on. Also keep in mind that my JIC coils are used- and I dont see why i cant compare them if i have owned both and you havent owned either one. Its okay to say people have had problems, that happens with almost any product... I just really dont see it being an issue, espeically with guys here like milt and george that have been running them for ages.
We arent all snobby track whores here, its a bunch of kids with camrys, most of whom will never be able to afford coilovers anyway. I am still sticking to the thought that k sport coilovers are the best choice for the gen 3 and they are better than any spring and strut combo. I think I ve been around long enough and seen enough products come and go to know what works on the gen 3, even if I never installed them.
the fact that youve owned them means nothing if you havent installed them .... ive held a set of K-Sport Coilovers for some Hondas .... so i know them just as well as you, if thats the case
and we dont have anyone on TN that has K-Sports and is a frequent AutoX'er or SCCA member ... if we do, they havent told us about it
he made a thread saying he wants to AutoX - the AutoX community as a whole would agree that it would be safer to start with good struts & springs rather than get K-Sports

lol, since when is megan racing high end .
Yes u might be presenting the facts, but that being said you have never driven a CAMRY with ksports on it, so untill you have dont talk shit.
I wouldnt feel right talking shit about something ive never experienced just because a few known people have had promblems with them, its just not right.

^ ....it has nothing to do with how it feels .... dont get ur panties in a wad because you like K-Sports ... i like them too, but i would never put them on a track/roadrace car
and you obviously have never seen someone rocking true Megan Racing Coilovers ... those shits are made like BRICKS!
(youve seen Allen & Milt & all those guys with their "true suspension" pics ... well this Supra on Megan's got 2-3 wheels off the ground with one jack point -- and thats not some random asshat on SupraForums, thats a local guy i met over the summer who has done it all ... drag, autoX, road race, etc etc... and he knows quite a bit about Toyotas!)
im not talking shit, im presenting TRUTH .... the truth is, they have been known to give problems .... you and damon can defend the company all you want, but those incidents wont go away ... and there are more documented incidents with D2/K-Sport than JIC, Megan, Bilstien, etc.
honestly, if i had the money i would splurge and put $1400 K-Sport GT's on my Camry in the drop of a hat ... but that being said, i dont push my car to the limits like you would in an AutoX (although i am hoping to start AutoX next season) ... and i would have 2nd thoughts about doing so

i know your car does the same thing ... i even said that right after the pictures (Allen's car did it) ... i was just showing you pictures of tried & true Megans - sure they sell a lot of Honda crap, but they do have quality parts too!
btw George, i know a guy that goes to school in NC & has met you [his name is Brad and he drives a brand-new IS300 w/ ASA AR1 rims, but he used to drive a white RSX that got totalled] .... he lives here and noticed your Camry when i was talking about Nice Gen 3's on another forum - he said he likes ur car

I believe that the K-sports were usuing a different set up on the maxima's.
But I could be wrong.
this discussion about k-sport/d2 coilovers and their quality is as useless as the argument over the wheel brands in the other thread
if you hit something before or there was a manufacturing production problem (i.e. the knocking d2 strut assemblies), there will be problems
but none of them will spontaneously combust on you while driving even if you're autocrossing
people have their preferences, and many prefer the most expensive brands due to their "quality", but there will always be more problems with the cheaper stuff since there are more in production and in use than the more expensive stuff (much of which are also placed on show cars and trailer queens).
in the end, it's a matter of OPINION and PREFERENCE.
we all know at least one or two of those people who have done everything under the sun possible to just about all different types of cars and they do have their expert opinions. but in the end, they are still opinion and we respect them and duly take them into consideration. Just repeating them as though they are a matter of fact does not make one right however.
so after posting your side of the story, please stop misinforming people by passing off opinion as fact. until there's a massive recall on products or there are physical comparisons of structural designs and material used in production by physics majors and experts, they're all the same when in use- some may look better than others or be more adjustable, but in the end, they all get the job done and all break if misused or somebody gets some bad luck suck as hitting a little rock too hard and then diving back into a dip in the road while the wheels were on an angle and some of the tie rods were loose and etc etc
now carry on and discuss other aspects of suspension before this thread gets locked due to the usual arguments that tend to arise in this forum with more and more frequency as the days go on.
