My rear left speaker popped, no idea why. It's the JBL speakers im looking to replace the back speakers and keep the front tweeters and door speakers. The thing is I want something a bit better than the back stock JBL speakers, they cant seem to handle bass. I was thinking of upgrading them to Alpine Type-S 6x9 on the rear. I would like to know if these speakers will blow away the stock JBL speakers and also can i install these speakers and keep the factory "look" without removing the covers above the back seats.
So in all it would be
Stock HU
Stock Fronts (JBL)
Stock tweeters
and Rear 6x9 Alpine Type -S (will it fit)??
anyways how should this sound for better or worse than stock bass wise??
USUALLY after market speaker(s) will sound better then stock. equip that with an after market deck and sound would better then stock.
"you get what you pay for"
edit: yeah you can run those Type S of your head unit.

If you're looking for some 6x9's that you don't have to amplify, look into the JBL GTO Series. I've used them with and without an amplifier. They're obviously better when amped, but they still perform well when ran only on the power from the receiver's built in amplifier.
I can't comment on the JBLs, cause I haven't used them, but 360glitch gives some good advice. If you're staying with the factory head unit, and you don't want to add an external amp, look for some speakers that work well with low power.
Alot of high end speakers require copious amounts of power to sound their best, and you may be disappointed, particularly with the bass output, if you install a high power rated speaker with the factory head.
I just took the factory 6X9s out of my '95, and they were labeled as 15Watt speakers. Replace that with a $200/pair 110W Infinity Kappa speaker, and I can almost guarantee that you'll want to cry when you hear them.
Crawl in the trunk and look at the bottom of your speakers. They may be marked with their wattage rating like mine were. That'll give you a better idea of what kind of speaker your head unit will drive well, unless of course you already know what the RMS power output of your head unit is
Thats a great deal, but shipping to Canada might cause some drama. I was really looking into Alpine's Type-S line, a local store is selling the pair for $75. I just wanted to know if these speakers are any good.
Alpine makes good speakers. Do what I said. Look at your factory speakers. See what WATT rating is stamped on the back. If they're 15W, and the ones your buying are rated to 100W, be prepared to be disappointed with the bass output.

The stock JBL rear speaker is around 15-20W RMS (correct me if im wrong). The Alpine is 50W RMS each speaker.
Does the Premuim system in the Camry have an Internal amplifier, and if so will it complicate things by putting in the Type-S's??
Since the Alpine is 50W RMS (250W PEAK) how bad will it actually sound running it off the stock deck?
it has an external amp on xle but even with that i dont think they would overpower their 15-20wrms speakers so they will just not be able to perform to their full potential
^^Exactly. The stock amp will run a 50W speaker, just not to it's full potential. So, don't be surprised if you put them in and you don't have as much bass as you expected from an Alpine 6X9. If they're rated at 250W peak power, You can be pretty confident that Alpine didn't design them with a 15W amp in mind.
^peak power really isnt a judge of anything its just the matter of the rms being less than half or what is recommended which could be even less then what maxes potential safely
