3rd Generation trouble removing speed sensor

I just don't get it. How do you get the ABS speed sensor out of the front wheel steering knuckle. I've removed the bolt holding the sensor. But the sensor itself won't budge. I broke one in half already in attempting removal.

Friction fit?

Does it screw in?

What's holding it fixed in place?! Rust?

cheers,
Blake

I haven't messed with the speed sensors (not on my Camry). This may be a clue though. The on-line manual says to torque it down to 48 inch pounds when installing it. Sort of suggests that it is threaded. The drawings for the rear sensor look like it might have threads.

Pull up the Brake section of the manual and do a search for "Front Speed Sensor Removal" and scroll down a few pages.
