3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I know I'll probably get flamed for this one cause there are lots of threads on suspension. But, is there any major diff between Eibach and H&R? I was planning on getting H&R, but see that Tire Rack has Eibach for less. I know the H&R drop is about .25 lower, which seems almost negligible. Is the ride/handling/quality much different between the two? I know they are both always at the top of the list of recommended springs.
theres not much differance other then the drop, id get eibach. and yeah, please search next time. i found 4 pages of posts on this and it took less time then it does to post the question.
I have HR's and KYB's on the 96 coupe and I'm pleased. Changed the ride alittle but still pretty smooth! Handles great! Even better with the addition of the TRD RSB.

they're both good imo. I'm partial to Eibach, but then I haven't tried H&Rs. Mind you I didnt have them on a camry, but an accord. The drop was perfect though, ride was rough as expected, but they performed great and didnt sag much. I got the PRO set. Remember whatever drop you pick, they'll most likely drop another half to a full inch over the first year.
btw, question, does advanced auto parts loan out spring compressors? I know they loan tools, but didnt know about that one. I'm thinking about dropping my camry, but only if I can do it myself. Think if I remember correctly it cost me a total of $1000 to drop my accord, incl. springs, struts...labor.......etc

Yeah, hated to even ask the question. Sorry. I'm just about to pull the trigger though, so it was that last minute check. My TRD RSB is coming on Monday from Reggie, along with Gen 4 bushing brackets and new end links, etc. I wanted to do the springs and struts at the same time, so I was online looking and thinking hmmm H&R, Eibach, H&R, Eibach. May just have to toss a coin. Thanks for the feedback
Honestly, they are both really good - i would just get which ever one will be cheaper
if you choose the H&R, make sure you know if youre getting the H&R Sports or H&R OE Sports .... the OE Sports dont give as much of a drop, so they are a little more comfortable, but arent as pleasing to the eye

of looks (w/ the right size tires and rims), comfort and sharp handling w/a
1.25" drop.
Your other options are Eibachs 1.0" and B+G 1.6"
The Eibach drop is not really noticeable. I personally want the drop of the
B+G's (w/ 215/50/17's I should get about a 1.5 finger gap in front and 1
B+in back) but I've heard very mixed reviews on them. Everything from "identical to Eibach", "Love em to death" and "they're mushy"
I don't know if mushy is a bad thing tho. I think of stock as mushy. If
mushy in this case means softer ride and less (but still better than stock)
cornering stability... tha'd be ok by me.
I'd say the ideal size and proportion rim/tire for a gen3 is... 215/50/17 - 215/45/18 - (w/a low drop) xxx/40/18
FYI - Struts and tire profile make a diff in stifness.
KYB's will be softer than Tokico's and the lower profile you go the harsher
the ride.
all these and many other answers can me found in the Gen3 FAQ
maybe a bit less of a toss of a coin..
thanks venom, that's all I needed to hear. I had a friend who bought a cheap compressor to lower his civic, broke and ripped the skin off his arm. Not just a little piece either. I want the right tools.
