Unhappy Bah! Front pass. side window not working well on my 1997 Camry:

Hope someone can offer some advice.

The front passenger side window is not rolling up and down - it will do it sometimes, if I play with the up and down button - especially if I list or push on BOTH front window controls. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it does work, it seems to be moving freely - so I don't think there is a jamming issue.

Does this sound like a bad contact, motor, mechinism, etc.? I have no idea. It is not getting better or worse. It happened overnight. It worked fine, then all of a sudden, it stopped working - about 2 weeks ago.

I appreciate any advice!!!

Thanks!

I had this problem with my 92. Workin fine one day, then the next..slow, and doesn't want to do anything sometimes. Motor could be gunked up? Loose connection somewhere?
or it could be just the motor was going bad itself as mine was.
I got it fixed for about $60, that was for new regulator and install.

go ahead and check out all your wiring behind the door panel before u start replacing things. see if any of your connections or loose or maybe just a little dirty. check the window up/down switch as well. if its not the wiring, its most likely a bad regulator since a lot of people on this forum has had the same problem. if so, you could probably get one off of ebay and do the install yourself for just a few bucks and change.

Excuse my n00biness, but whats a regulator and what does it do?

Thanks!

Yes, I will probably open things up and see what I can find. I already tore open the door when I put in a new passenger side rearview mirror.

Basically what gets your windows up and down if all the wiring is properly hooked up.

check out ebay for some pretty cheap ones.
or:
http://www.autobodypartswholesale.com
http://www.autopartsbuy.com
http://www.directbuy.com

Autopartsbuy.com has free shipping. But make sure you check everything else before buy a new regulator and then finding out later it was just some loose wires or what not.

Good Luck

Cool. Now I just need to rip my door open - again!

Any tips? Should I focus in the connectors near the window motor or the switches? Could there be a issue on the drivers side window controler?

Thanks!!! Hopefully Toyota engineering will make things east for me. Better than a mid 70' Land Rover

umm, yeah..check every connection, and just blow everything out with like a compressed air can. check the window while you have everything undone to see if it works before you everything back on.
More than likely sounds like your regulator is bad, but check the other stuff first..ya might get LuckY

Good Luck

heres a suggestion: does the window go up and down normal if you use the switch thats on the door where the window is? if so, its probably a bad connection on the drivers control panel. if it doesnt go down normal, its probably a bad regulator.

hey kenratboy I've got a 4th gen window motor and regulator I have laying around I cant remember which side it is but I'll have to find it first. My dad got it for 50 bucks at a junk yard thinking it would fit on my gen3. It was from a new 98' after it was wrecked. I can let it go for dirt cheap if you want. Email me if your interested.
