Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge Install

I have been looking for days on what wires to splice on the ECM to make my AutoMeter AFR meter work. Does anyone know the pinout for the ECM or know where a guide is on the whole process of installing the AFR meter?

I have the 1998 Toyota Camry V6 3.0 1MZ-FE (non-VVT) engine.

Thanks
Mike

Wiring diagram pdf ... engine control section ...you just have to keep paging down.

If you have difficulty downloading the relevant section, use the IE browser.

You might pm JvR ... it looks like he was doing something similar:
air/fuel meter

if its obd1, just splice from the air temp sensor, and run that wire to the 02 sensor...thast how my guy with a 5sfe mr2 did it..

^ ??? what are you talking about...please do more research and learn some more before trying to answer other people's questions....

you can either splice at the ecu with the info/link that dc_98_cam provided, or you can splice into one of the the 02 sensors and run a wire inside hte cabin....I would recommend splicing at the ecu though. you can pick either hte front or the rear bank sensor

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing to make suggestions and try to help people, but unless you're close to 100% sure or have done the same thing yourself, it is often less helpful to suggest things

but nobody's blaming you for trying- just make sure you get your info correct before trying to help out

The way I did mine was I spliced into the O2 sensor that is near the catalytic converter. What color, I don't remember so you'll have to check.

As I was going through the wiring diagram, I noticed that there were connections for both the oxygen sensor and an air fuel ratio sensor.

I still plan on splicing the o2 sensor, not the a/f sensor.

Is this correct?

Yes, just be sure you splice the right wire.

actually, now that you mention the fact about the a/f sensor....I had forgotten that they switched from the 02 sensor to the a/f sensor part way through the gen4...I'm still not sure what year they switched to the a/f for the ecu tuning, but it may have been for the 98

but if you have both a/fs and an o2 sensor in your wiring, then you have to splice the a/f sensor

the o2 sensor would be post-cat, which means that the exhaust gas would have already been cleaned up and effected by the cat, which means that the readings won't make any sense or have any meaning

the accuracy of narrow-band a/f sensors when used with stock a/f sensors is similar to that as with stock 02 sensors, though some people argue that it is not as accurate since they are mostly designed to work with stock o2 sensors

The wiring diagram that I was looking through was for the 1999 1mz-fe toyota camry v6 3.0L.

So that is why the diagram doesent look like the one that matches my 98.

Would I be able to get the guage to work by directly tapping into O2 sensor wire that is in the engine bay?

(I just haven't been able to find any information on the pinout or the electrical wiring for this 98 1mz-fe. If someone knows where another schematic is for the wiring that would help a lot. )

BTW, thanks for the help!

lol....if I remember correctly...don't you have a narrowband?

and don't knock the narrowband...it's still good general info...though I'd never give up my wideband...haha...

and yes, you can do that. but I'd say that it's more work.

you can always go to your local toyota dealership and ask them for a printout of your wiring

Suggest removing negative battery cable from battery before you do any electrical connection/splicing .... AFR and ECU are sensitive to spikes/voltage fluctuations.
