Purchased New Tires /For Winter Size Question

I Just Purchased New Tires to be delivered tomorrow with the size 195 70 14

Good Year Assuraunce Triple Treads...im just wondering is that the best size

for my 97 camry for the snow or shuld i have i gon with 205 65 15 ...which

size is better for the snow and overalll thanks..

If your wheels are 14", then the first one. If your wheels are 15" then the second one.

In my experience the narrower tire is better. the wider tire will float on the snow.

What size rims do you have? would that not dictate which tire size is right for you?

dont those sizes fit both rims??? and i do belive the rim is the oem so whatever size that is ....

No. The two tires you quoted are for two different wheels.

The first tire you quoted is for a 14" wheel, hence the 14. The second tire you quoted is for a 15" wheel. The two are not interchangeable.

Look at the tires you have now and see what size they have listed on them. Are they 195/70/R14 or are they 205/65/R15? Your new tires should be the same size as the ones you have now.

There are 14" OEMs and 15" OEMs. If you have steelies with hubcaps, they're 14" If you have alloys they're 15"

the last number dictates rim size, 14" or 15" you want that to match up to your rim size on your car

Yours is basically the same as my 96 2.2. The 14 inch size is for the four cylinder base model and the 15 inchers came with the six cylinders. I myself would prefer the bigger 205/65/15 but for me that would mean finding the 15 inch alloys from an SE or XLE, or other 15 inch rims.

I think the bigger 15's would contribute to a better ride and handling especially over pot holed roads or wintery ruts. But really, for winter driving it's more about the type of snow tire you have. My personal choice is the Michelin X-Ice as a) a 15 inch or b) in 14 inch size if I don't want to spend money on 15" rims.

But anyway the bottom line is: how much money do you want to spend?

Actually the 15" has a little less sidewall than the 14" setup so the 14" setup should be more comfortable than the 15". 205/65 is less than 195/70... 70% of 195 is higher than 65% of 205.

My understanding from the original post was that he had already ordered new Goodyear tires for his existing wheels and was then second guessing the size he ordered.

If that's the case, then the bottom line would be for him to verify his current wheel/tire size to ensure that he ordered the right tire, as opposed to discussing the virtues of 15s vs. 14s, etc.

thankyou eddie everything was answered because the sales manwho ordered the tire told me i could use the 205 but i have the oem wheels and my oriiginal size on my tire is 195 70 14 so i should be in goodshape thanks....

Yeah, if you currently have the 195/70/R14, then that's what you wanted to order.

Have to wonder why the guy would tell you that you could use a 15" tire on your 14" wheel. Maybe he meant a 205/70/R14?? But, there wouldn't be much point in going to that. It would be a little wider and fill your wheel wells just a little more, but would throw your speedometer off some.

IMO, you're better off staying with the 195.

That's what my previous owner put on my car 205/70/14. Since I never drove it with the recommended size, I don't know if it makes a difference or not, other than my speedo reading roughly 5 km/hr slow. More noticable on the highway.

I would still prefer a lower sidewall height for slightly better handling ie. the bigger 15's. Not too worried about ride, Camrys already ride very well.

I'm actually doing the cost/benefit math right now; go with the recommended 195/70/14, what's on there now (205/70/14) or just upgrade to the 15" size? My tire would be the Michelin.
