alright TN. check it out. since i am lo tech and not willing to spend a lot of moeny (im broke), i wasnt one to go out and get a new stereo..and besides that, i dont even uses cd's, i just transmit music out of my laptop. i have a box hooked up to an amp hooked up to my car...the box is capable of putting out deafening bass, but im more of a treble man, and bass is secondary. this being said: i use windows media player to play al my music. i was messing around with it today and noticed a 'graphic equalizer.' now i've been messin around with ttha tyrna get the sound i like, but i said lemme just post and see what u guru's have to say about this: in the equalizer there are ten bars with sliders, beneath each of these bars is: 31Hz, 62Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1Khz, 2, 4, 8 and 16 KHz...
1) what do these mean?
2) how do i set the sliders on each of them to get maximum treble with a lil bit of bass?
all help is welcome and appreciated!

1) Those are the "frequencies" of sound. Therefore, the lower the Hz, the lower the sound so to speak. Or in another way of saying, 31Hz is the most "bass" of the sound range, and 16Khz is the "treble" of the range. Someone here might be able to really explain it accurately, but without going into silly details, that's all there is
2) Picture the graphic EQ, the sliders from left to right is basically the sound range from "bass" to "treble". So if you want less bass but more treble, adjust the few sliders at the extreme left side (eg: the 31, 62 and 125Hz sliders) towards the bottom (to dial them down so to speak), and vice-versa for treble by adjusting the few sliders at the extreme right side towards the top (to "crank" them up). Whatever sliders that're in the middle are the mid-range, and normally you'd want to crank them up just a little as well, or you can leave them as is.
The best is to stay in your car and adjust each of those sliders while you're playing some music (with good amount of both treble and bass, like any drum'n'bass songs would do). That way, you can kinda hear exactly what frequencies of sound you're manipulating on the fly, and from screwing around with those sliders, hopefully you'll get the setup you like. After that, load up a couple of other songs (from different genre) and see if that setup works well with those other types of music, since each type of music requires different optimal EQ setting to get the best sound, but frankly not many of us have the time for that LOL.
Good luck.

Have you tried using the "SRS WOW" plugin that came with windows media player? (im assuming that you have windows media player 8 or newer - came with windows 2000 or later)
If you havent, Try that before even touching the equalizer, you will be pleasantly surprised i guarantee
