3rd Generation Need Help Adjusting Projectors - w/ Pics!

Please help me adjust these projectors. These are TSX projectors on a 1996 Camry LE. I've only done one headlight...what I've done so far is try to aim it towards the center of the car level with the projectors position on the car - using the center line here:
..........______..............
_____/...............

I'm also not sure if the projectors are in far enough. So I'm open to any thoughts on the position.

I have some photos. The car on a sloped driveway so it was a little tough. I was about 9 feet back when I took these pictures. The cut off line was about 1 foot, 10 inches off the ground. Also, it was raining outside...I know, I'm mad. Cheers.

Please excuse the cruddy camera and poor lighting.

im not entirely sure, but arent u supposed to adjust them using a 20-foot distance or something like that?

if you get too close (or too far, for that matter) your adjustments will be useless

Nobody ever replies to my topics at hidplanet...I don't think I'm going to get much help there. I'll try to take your advice and compare to other pics I see online. I just wish they had better specific specs online like 10ft away and 2ft high on the wall.

Looks like your rotation and height are just fine. I wouldn't necessarily aim the step at the center of the car though, since you'll decrease the width of the beam if you do that. Space it from the center for better width. In the end, you should get a beam pattern that looks like this:

..........______.._________
_____/.........../

If you think it's not recessed enough, just see if the cover will fit back on. As long as it does, you're fine. Drill a bigger hole if necessary.

Make sure you put a bezel of some sort on the projector. Otherwise it'll just look like crap.

I just went and adjusted it from a wall 20ft off and I tested close up as well..it doesn't change the height as I move from it so I guess I have a nice level beam.

Also, I see what you mean DarkMastyr. When I was adjusting it I thought it was a bit funky. In the end I came up with a pattern like the one you explained. I think that should be pretty good.

As for the bezel...do you mean shrouds? I have some MDX ones if that's what you mean.

I plan on painting the low beam side of the headlights black. Any tips on how to do this correctly or how much I should paint?

If you're going to paint, just use blue painter's tape to mask off sections that you don't want to be sprayed, and you need to paint while the projector is out, so do it now before you make any more adjustments. Otherwise you'll have to make them all over again.

As for bezels, I mean some sort of ring to cover the front of the projector. I usually refer to shrouds as some sort of cylindrical cover (like a coke can) to block any excess light coming out of the projector, but since TSX projectors are enclosed, they're not really necessary. Just a choice of words.

E46 bezels...

I'm assuming you have these then...

Headlight Adjustment

CAUTION: Headlights become very hot during use; do not touch them or any attaching hardware immediately after they have been turned off.

Before adjusting the headlights:
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface.
  • Make sure the tire pressures are correct.
  • Have the driver or someone who weights the same sit in the driver's seat.
  1. Clean the outer lens so that you can see the center of the headlights.
  1. Park the vehicle 25 ft (7.5 m) away from a wall or a screen (A).
  2. Turn the low beams on.
  1. Determine if the headlights are aimed properly. Vertical adjustment: Measure the height of the headlights (A). The lights should reflect 52 mm (2.1 in.) below headlight height (B).

I guess from what JSm posted, the cutoff should be the same height as ur headlights.

That's sick man, I was planning to do that.... Looking forward to the finished product

Actually, 2.1 inches below the height of the headlights at 25ft away.
