Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So i bought another 3rd Gen 5sfe 5spd. What to do what to do...
Awesome deal though.

5sfe
155k
Blown Head Gasket
Block is good and head is good.
Body is beautiful, interior has some small problems (cracked dash?) Never seen these like this.
$400
Going to take my ported and polished head, new head gasket, timing belt, seals, and some other service crap and get her running like new.
If you already have a working setup I would definitely turbo it.
And speaking of the cracked dash, I saw one on a gen 3 camry in a parking lot and was very surprised by it. Most of the camrys at my local junkyard still have great looking dashes.
I would just save up and do a swap and then go from there if you really want a turbo. But first I would say talk to grk, he was going turbo and then decided not to with the 5s, im sure he can give the best insight
You better off swapping in a jdm 3vz-fe and turbo that sucker even at stock that will blow away the 5sfe unless you built it up and turbo but 5sfe's have been known to mess up under that heat, for me I wouldn't take that chance but I'm bias to the V6 anyways.

no offense to george, but someone who COMPLETED the setup would give better insight
Rdizzle is currently working on the build and has done a considerable amount of research & planning, as well
RedPhoenix, UfoZ, TheAmazingNate ... all good guys to talk to about the 5S-FTE
Presure2 on 6gc.net is basically an expert on the 5S turbo build, as well

I did not go turbo because i knew that REALISTICALLY i could not get the power i wanted without spending ALOT more money than i wanted too. Sure 5-8psi on a 5s is nice if you like living under 200whp. I say fuck that, thats what most cars have STOCK and other cars have aftermarket support to push them over that with very little money.
But if you have the money, time and resources than go turbo. If not, save your pennies.

I got a GT28R that im going to use. I actually made an adapter for the 3sgte manifold to bolt to a t3 turbine. Heres a pic of the setup on my other gen 3 with out the piping or anything.
Also does anybody know a good source for water for the turbo? Inlet side and return side.
