I just got around to installing the suspension I purchased from Curry a couple of months ago. The installation went well, but it seems one of the strut mounts has gone bad. Not that it matters that much, but it's the front right mount. Anyways, they're the factory housings with Tokiko inserts and Eibach springs (1" drop). My plan is just to swap the old mount with the "new" mount, and boom, fixed. I was told by a friend that I believe to be fairly knowledgeable that I wouldn't need a spring compressor since these are aftermarket springs, but I wanted to ask around before i go ripping this thing apart. What do you guys think?
I've done a whole number of suspension setups on the camry now, and the only ones that I haven't needed a spring compressor for was my current dropzone springs in the front...haha...
but don't worry about it either, it's a cinche

I have a funny story about removing a spring from a strut. One day in Auto Tech, this guy thought he was hard and decided not to use one so he was like "This is how we do in the hood playa, this hood status shit" then takes an impact gun and takes the top nut off. Boom the spring shoots up and he got scared shitless haha. The spring shot up to the ceiling and that was about 25ft. or so. I'm not sure but man was that funny.

Not the smartest man in the world was he. . He's lucky he didnt put his head in the way first. you only have to look at the size of those coil springs to know how powerful they must be. Probably got a ton or more of force compressed in there....what a tard
Problem solved. It turned out the main strut mount bolt (the one right on top in the center) was a little loose. Tightened it up, took it for a test drive and it was good to go.
i too hear rattling noise in the front that never goes away. how do you determine the main mount is loose. how much to tighten the center bolt. is there any spec. i want to try this before the mount replacement.

The way I determined it was just to through a 19mm socket on there and give it a turn. And it did. I checked the other side, it was fine. I didn't check the torque specs at the time, but they should be on page 98 of this PDF:
