Ok so about 2-3 weeks ago i had the drain and fill of transmission fluid done at dealershp, Used coupon i found on their website for 49.99 they say it is regularly like $79.99 for.
At the time they suggested i get timing belt changed, since when i purchased car back in like may or june. there was no date or record of when it was last replaced. While i was there they gave me a quote of $422 to replace timing belt.
Ok now this morning I just go to the dealerships website just to see if they have any other specials or coupons i might need. and i see a big ass coupon for 6 CYLINDER timing belt change $259.00 IM LIKE WTF
I dont know the average cost is to have this done but that is a huge difference. ($163.00 difference)
So how much have you all paid for timing belt change on similiar car? does this sound right?
PS finally got around to doing my first tool gathering for my first official DIY oil change and or drain and refill of transmission fluid Picked up combination wrench set i think it goes from like 8mm -19mm along with A 40 piece 3/8" drive socket set sae/metric The rhino ramps (might take back and get jack and jack stands) , wheel chocks, I know i will need a hex bit set soon. Hopefully i can have everything i need by the tiem for next change. I HATE WASTING TIME WAITING FOR SERVICE, and like the idea of being able to do it during my late night insomnia fits lol

I had my timing belt changed umm about 2 years ago I wanna say.. Mine was CRUCIAL lol
I was on my way to kroger down the road from my crib and once I pulled in the parking lot oil was EVERYWHERE! I was like wtf lol, my car looked like it was CRYING. I turned around and went home lol, not knowing the belt was already off the car LMAO! My belt literally came off, not snaped into pieces.. it was still together as one belt but CAME CLEAR OFF TRACK!! The housing and everything was torn up LOL!! I had my car towed like 30 to 45 minutes from my house to this shop, my mom knew someone that could fix it. Cost her like $200 bucks with labor and the part. I've never taken my car to the dealership.. I wouldn't dare LMAO! They will charge out the ass because they can. If u need any more advice on car info hit me up.. I've got all kinds lol, I've replaced all kinda crap on mine and I've had mine umm going on 4 years now.. L8r!

Well $422 seems a tad high for just the pump, since I changed the timing belt in my '94 V6 with 122K miles and it cost about $450 for the belt and waterpump.
I'd shop around. My Toyota dealership will change the timing belt for $200. I'm guessing your price quote included the water pump also. I was quoted around $400 for a timing belt and water pump change.
$28.99, and about four hours of my time. DIY.... BUT, i was quoted $179 with my dealership discount, which is like fifteen or twenty percent, so about $210.
The V6 belts are pretty easy, I think. You don't have to mess with any engine mounts, and if you get the belt from the dealer it comes marked to line up with the notches on the cam and crank sprockets so you don't even have the possibility of being a tooth off. Get a manual and some simple tools, give it a shot.
