1993 camry headlight doesn't turn off when driver door opened

can anyone help me how to troubleshoot this? thanks!
key is not in ignition.

I also notice that the interior overhead light does not go off when driver
side door is opened. that problem does not exist when I open other doors.

The door doesn't turn off the headlights. The overhead light is probably because the sensors that go on when you open the door are broken which is why you only get the light on with the drivers open door. There is a little switch if you didn't notice that says "door", "on" and "off" on the overhead light. If it is on door it will go on when the door is open.

Looking at the 'Light Auto Turnoff' diagram, p. 112, Gen 3 online repair manual, there is a part labeled 'Door Courtesy Switch Front LH' which would control the headlight turnoff function.
This switch is shown to be located in the driver door closure area ... see part D12, on p. 34 of manual pdf .... so that it activates as the driver's door is opened. It is possible that this pin switch is not making good electrical contact, due to debris, dirt, or corrosion. If you can locate this switch and spray it with some electrical contact cleaner, it might start working. If that doesn't produce a result, you might have to disassemble the switch, clean it thoroughly, and check for functionality. ... Although, the problem which you describe might be associated with the Integration Relay ... an electronic integrated circuit type of part, it is most likely that the difficulty is the door switch.
... Not sure about the interior light function ... may be related to headlight problem.

Thanks for your reply. Camry has an auto light off function for the headlight. I am not sure if the driver door opening does not turn it off, but i have always seen it stay on (after key is off ignition), until the door is opened, when the light shuts off.
The overhead switch was in the right position. As I said, the light goes on, when the other doors are opened.

dc_98_cam - thanks! this is what I was looking for. I need to look at the sensor connection in the manual. I am also suspecting loose connection because now I see the headlight shut off SOMETIMES when the driver door is opened.
I had to take the door down to replace the external door handle - something may have gotten loose..
Let me see if the courtesy switch is the culprit here..

any one knows if it is the same sensor for overhead light??
