4th Generation Gen 4 hood problems

Does anyone know how I would go about removing the insulating stuff that lines the undersurface of the hood of a 99 camry. It looks like it is attached via self-tapping screws, but I was unable to remove them. I already broke two, and I really don't want o break any more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

break 'em off and use like dynamat (or other deadeners; i just stated dynamat cuz it the popular kind) to re-line it since dynamat is self adhesive; you shouldn't have to worry about the clips. OR - just buy new clips from an auto-body store if you really plan on going the OE route. Hope this helps some.

Thanks. Actually, I should have been more clear, I'm not planning on changing the hood. The tube that feeds into the windsheild washer nodule has fell off in my car. I'm lookinh to put it back on, but I couldn't get that stupid insulator thing off. I really don't feel like purchasing additional material if there is any way I could just take this off and replace it. Or, could I just take it off and leave it off? I'm guessing there is a reason why its there, but if it really doesn't need to be there, I could live without it.

I would suggest definitely putting it back on because the screws are made to melt if there is too much heat (fire) and the mat will fall onto the fire to smother it. Its there for a reason.

Use a trim removal tool that looks like a small pry bar with a knotch and slowly pry them. Do it when the clips are warm.
