Heater Control Valve Hose Clamp

I have a leaking hose in a 1992 Camry going from the Heater Control Valve to the Heater Core. The clamp that holds this hose to the valve is a strange looking hose clamp. It looks like it has a cotter pin in it. How do I remove this clamp, Just cut it off with some tin snips?

A picture of a similar clamp is shown on the following thread (bottom of heater control valve) look at the second close up picture.

That's new to me ... What would happen if you pushed/pulled the cotter pin out from the bottom? Maybe there would be enough slack to push the band piece down off of the hose end ... try some lubricant.

Also, you might want to drain the coolant from the engine block ... to avoid coolant going everywhere. There should be a waterside plug someplace on the engine block.

This type of clamp is a common OEM item. You can pull the pin then unravel the clamp to remove it, or once the clamp is loose enough slide the hose off the heater tube and the clamp off the hose.

Do not abuse the fitting or hose too much, the heater core tube is brass/copper and VERY soft. You can easily distort the tube if you use pliers or a screwdriver too aggressively in attempting to force the clamp or hose off.
