3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Been wanting to make these for a while, since at least in my state, they take the no tape on lights to include eyelids. So vinyl was out of the question.
So, I'll use fiberglass, I decided to make them only for the headlights and not the side lights, due to the complexity it would cause, so these will be small eyelids.
First I've got to remove the head lights, which I found in one of the sticky threads
Then I taped the lights, you must tape the whole light. I used blue tape to delineate where the eyelid will be cut afterwards.
Once taped, I wetted the tape with epoxy and layed down two successive layer of fiberglass cloth.
From there, I went ahead and started doing some work at filling in low spots and imperfections.
Then I removed the eyelids, which was pretty hard, you just have to work them off the lights slowly. I used a knife to slowly pry them off.
From here, I have to finish the work needed to prep the eyelids for final paint, which will involve some more putty, some more resin here and there and then paint. I'll get back to you all, this was what I finished last night

hey bro, you did you sand down the fiberglass after it dried up before painting it? Very crucial man. I don't have any custom fiberglass parts on the car, but from what my buddies and pros at the shops do, it'll come out looking really really smooth and clean at the end.
man, seeing someone else do it almost makes me want to go out and finish mine.
one of the things i didn the second time was use some mounting tape along the bottom edge of the eyelid ao it would have a small grove to sit it them i mount it.

p.s.- use the fine grit automotive sand paper.
(thought that it might be a helpful hint)
I first sanded with 220, moved up to 400, applied glazing putting, (edit; forgot I threw some primer on a few times to judge how smooth it was) sanded again with 400, and again and then black primer on both sides, sanded with 1000, then laid down two coats of dark red followed by two coats of a lighter shade, followed by 2 coats of clear, sound about right. Luckily I know just as much about cars as I do boats... So I know glass.
some daylight
edit for the 14th time, forgot to add, theyre affixed by 3M double sided tape and just stuck to the top of the lens.
some in a parking lot with sleet

they look good .... did u block out much light output, or is it hardly noticeable?
oh, and i do think eyelids look better on the gen 3.5, just because they would flow with the shape of the headlights better towards the center of the car

looks good, i would prefer a less sharp angle but still good job
I went through many options using photoshop, but came to this one. I dont know really how I'd change em.
Heck here's a challenge. I'll throw up a pic of the car without them and see what you guys come up with. Since they are just double sided taped on and made of fiberglass, I could change em or remake em, if someone comes up with something better

great job, i made eyelids for my gen 4 and they didnt turn out half as well, instead on tape i extended the eyelid to the back of the light and
made a mounting tab on the frame of the car
