Help with Heated seats and rear defrost ?

OK I tricked you....

Im asking about a 1995 Avalon, but since they are so similar to the Camry in many areas I thought I would ask here too.

First problem is the rear defrost will not come on. The fuse is not blown and I hear a click in the fuse area of the dash when I turn it on. Any common points of failure I could check on this?

Also, I have a heated seat fuse in the fusebox, but cannot figure out how to turn on the seat heat. The manual indicates there's a switch for it in the door but no such switch exists. Would that indicate maybe it comes on automatically with another function, or am I out of luck? I have the front bench seat, not sure if that matters.

Are you referring to the rear window defogger? ....Wire heating element on the rear window?
See p. 78 of Gen 3 repair manual ... Body Electrical System section.
The relevant wiring diagram is on p. 190 of the Gen 3 Wiring Diagram in the repair manual.
There is a Defogger Relay that you should be able to check with a resistance meter.

For window heat (defog) check wire to glass connection.
measure the two contact points and see fi you got voltage there.

Seats, do you have leather? if not then chances are no heater.

Do Camry's have a history of rear defogger problems? I JUST took my car to the dealership today because we had an UGLY sleet and snow day and the rear defogger only cleared the rear window around the very rim of the window. The dealership told me, "It's working fine. We tested it and it's functioning at its standard 12 volt capacity." I tried to enlighten him that I'm not a novice at purchasing or driving cars and I've had other American made luxury vehicles that performed better. He still attempted to convince me that nothing was wrong OR...(chk this out), I could pay almost $700.00 to replace the rear window. I left the dealership disgusted. On the way home, I turn on the trusty defogger and...nothing but the very rim of the window cleared after 15 minutes. Does anyone know of any recall or fix for this obvious problem?

Signed,

Look at your defrost lines, make sure that there ALL ok. Sometimes a scratch on the special paint cuts the current in that area leading to dead a defrost. If there is such a scratch in your fine lines, you can buy a bottle (somewhat like a bottle of nail polish) of that special paint and apply it to the scratched part after you have prepared some masking tape to hide the part of the window you don't want painted (to make a line instead of a spot of paint.).

Good luck!

I'll look a bit further into that because the dealership swore they checked the lines and there were no scratches. I'm returning to the dealership armed with the many "rear defogger" issues from this forum. Thanks for your help!
