3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I got my '93 Camry a little over a year ago and the airbag light has been on since then. I know about the way to get that fixed but have been too lazy to try it. Then about 6 months ago my cruise control and horn went out at about the same time. Now, my inspection is due. In fact I got a ticket today for it. I have a temporary switch going for the horn to work so I think that should pass for inspection.
But I would like to figure out what the problem is and get it fixed properly. We are thinking it has to be something between the relay and the horn switch. Removing the airbag, I can see a connector that the cruise, horn and airbag wires seem to go into. Is this the spiral cable or the combination switch? It seems like if all these things are not working, maybe this switch or connector is the problem? Any thoughts?
... don't see an obvious relation between the horn operation and the cruise control ...
Question: when you activate the cruise control button, does the dash gauge light saying cruise come on?
...
Question: Are you sure that the horn relay itself is good? Have you removed the horn relay and checked for coil continuity between terminals 1 and 2 ... and open circuit between 2 and 3?
...
Question? As far as the cruise control operation, have you operated your Parking Brake 'briskly' several times, in case the sensor is stuck? CC won't operate if Ebrake is on... even a little bit.

No cruise lights come on at all. We tested the horn relay and even got a new one, still a no go. We tested all three terminals I believe. Hmmmm, the CC went out so long ago I am not sure if I did any brisk pulls on it at the time. But I am pretty sure they went out about the same time.

Everything you've mentioned runs through the spiral cable. That's where I would start testing. If you have the airbag out you already know where it is. They're prone to failure eventually as they spend their lives constantly winding in and out as you turn the wheel.
Finally found the circuit diagram for the horn ... The horn activation wire within the steering column should be a green wire with a black stripe....going from the horn switch to the horn relay.
...
Can you tell what color/description is of the wires going to the cruise control, or possibly to the air bag?
Any chance that a picture would show anything? The instructions for posting pictures are located in a sticky post at the top of the forum page.
