1996ish lexus axle replacement question

my buddy went to the parts store to but the passenger side axle. they dont sell the whole axle (outter axle and intermediate shaft), just the outter part. i thougth they only sell the axle as one whole part - am i wrong? we are now in the process of removing the 6 10mm allen bolts that connect the two parts together.

From what I see, yes they are the same. I looked up the camry part number and then searched for the lexus axles using that number....same part #.

also I mostly saw axles being sold with the intermediate.

It is probable because the axle can be easily separated that it is not offered as a single unit. Most often the outer joint is the one that fails thus no need to replace the complete unit.
