5s fe Exhaust Manifold noise

Hi Guys

I'm getting some weird noises (engine sounds a lot deeper) around the exhaust manifold. I was wondering if anyone knew of any common problems that occur around that area before i get ripped off by a mechanic. I've been told its AU$50 to diagnose the problem.

Car has 256 000km (unknown service history before 222 000km serviced every 5000km thereafter).

Its a 5s fe (Australian) 2.2l 4sp automatic.

How about a loose heat shield over the catalytic converter?

Maybe do a video and post it up on Utube or something and give us a link. At least give us some more particulars about when you hear it and what it sounds like.
