2000 Camry XLE remote

2 questions if I may

1st
my security system seems to be troubled.
its the factory system that came with the car.
seems that all 3 remotes dont want to work. If I hold it button down for an extended period it will lock the doors but the the security light stays solid for a bit . this just happened and as I said we have 3 remotes.
also need to hold it down to unlock .

2nd should my doors be locking when the car is engaged in drive ? we have always heard this noice once speed reaches about 3 mph sound like a relay or something .. the dealer said it is the light sensor coming on but if I let it sit at night and the lights come on automatically then the sensor should be on but it still makes this noise .

any help would be great

Thanx

Have you ever changed the remote battery? If not, do that first. It's a cheap thing to rule out. I generally change the remote battery out every few years max - or when I notice I have to start holding the button down and going close to the car until it arms/disarms. On a fresh battery it works from a LONG distance and takes one short button press to arm/disarm the system.

will try the remote battery .. but I figured with all 3 remotes not working that would not be it ... one of them has a 6 month old battery.

Even the red led security light isnt working like normal .. used to always flash .. now after I get it to arm it stays red solid for awhile .

But it does work better close to the car.

Thanx

On my 98, the factory system is called SecuriKey+.
There is a detailed instructional brochure that describes the various options which are enabled by various means.
The red led to the left of the steering column is actually a push button.
If you turn the ignition to on, and then push the button, so that it is in the outer position, the alarm should be activated, and should blink after you exit and close the doors. Do you observe this particular action?
