3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've changed a bulb in my 1996 Camry's dash board console for which I've to take out the whole panel and place the small bulb on the back side of the console. Now after putting all the things back together; My dashboard Clock, Radio/CD player and dinging door alarm doesn't work, also; the automatic cut off system for head lights system also not working. Also I can't turn on the headlights unless the ignition switch is ON. The only thing I did extra was; I pulled 2 fuses out of the fuse box from underneath the console panel on the left side of driver and place it back as is."I don't know why I did it, but I did it". The fuses I pulled out was for SRS and Radio, What SRS stands for? Please help me what to do and where to look?
Thanks a lot
check the radio fuse under the hood, in the fuse box. its a 10. it might be blown, i blew mine when i changed my trunk light and did not disconnect my battery and the wires touched.
SRS is supplemental restraint system , air bags in simple terms. did you check if other fuse(s) are blown.

Did you plug everything back? The plugs are for power window, clock, emergency light, and especially the plug for dimming the dashboard light which will make all the dashboard light dead if you didn't plug back in.
All fuses look good in the cabin fuse panel. I tested them with volt meter. One fuse under the hood was bad which is dome light. But it shouldn't matter because everything was working even with a blown dome light fuse. Any other suggestions? What should a fuse say under the hood area. Should it say Radio/CD or its listed under some other catagory? I'm pretty sure that I placed back the harnesses pretty good and it shouldn't have any impact on Radio/DC player because that harness is at totally different place and I didn't touched it.
Thanks
Just my 2 cents...but that fuse that is blown under the hood was probably NOT blown before you started taking things apart and putting things back. You could have shorted something and blown that fuse.
Until you have ALL fuses in place and verified as good...we really cant go further. Replace ANY/ALL fuses that are blown...and if you still have the problem...post back.

i actually have the same problem. in addition to his, my remote key doesnt work and my seat belt warning light doesnt work either. i checked all the fuses. no cigar... any suggestions?
The fuse under the hood: DOME Light fuse was bad. I don't know what happened with that. But when I replaced that, everything came back normal except the Interior Light. I've no clue how Dome Light fuse is attached to CD, Clock etc area. And actual DOME Light doesn't works :-). Any ideas?
Maybe you will have to consider the possibility that something is damaged ....
It is usually a good idea to disconnect the negative cable from the battery under the hood whenever you do any kind of electrical repairs ...
There is a wiring diagram available .... located in the online repair manual ... You can download this ... See Gen 5 forum page .... top of page ... various manual links.

I knew it! And when it says DOME...I really think it means INTERIOR. Dont know why...maybe no room to imprint INTERIOR on it and only have room for DOME? Ya got me on that one.
And for the dome light still not working...check the bulb to make sure it didnt blow.

The interior light bulb is good, I checked it with test meter. I really don't know where else and what else to look for? The DOME Light fuse fixed the CD Player, Radio and other stuff but Not the Actual Dme Light . I don't want to pay $75/hr just to diagnose. Please advise.
Thanks

Use the test meter to check the dome light socket ... at the metal terminals ... to see if there is voltage present .... Be sure that the light switch is such that the dome light should be on when you test it.
If nothing is there ...no voltage ... look at the circuit diagram and work back to a connector or other point where you do have voltage.
