Hi, everyone.

I have a Gen 3 and the A/C and Emergency buttons do not light up when the car's lights are turned on. Is this what Toyota designed (stupid, if so, especially not to have the emergency flashers button dark!) or, are the buttons supposed to be lit? And if so, how do I get to the bulbs to replace 'em?

the bulbs are probably burned out

get them from the toyota dealership, will probably be a couple of bucks each.

I face the same problem. But when i tap it hard enough the lights come back on.

^probably a loose connection, or the bulb is getting old

I have the A/C button now lit by tapping on the area around it (!!), but the hazzard button is still unlit. How does a person remove that button to change the bulb?

pull the dash trim out and you can twist the bulb out from the top with a flathead or phillips head
