grinding / rubbing sound during left turns

I've been hearing a grinding or rubbing sound when I turn all the way to the right, coming from the front left wheel/tire area. I don't hear it when I turn slightly, like on a slightly curvy road, but only when I sharply, like when I make a right turn at an intersection. All of the searching that I've done here on the forums tell me that it can be a wheel bearing or a ball joint problem. Just wanted to throw it out there and get some confirmation from everyone.

It's not the CV grinding and clicking sound. That's a distinct sound that I've heard before. My grinding, rubbing sound is more subtle, and only happens when I turn all the way to the right. Two months ago, I had the strut/strut mount replacement due to the much talked about front end rattle. Perhaps this caused something as well? The shop usually go to suggested that the rack and pinion unit needs to be replaced.

forgot to mention that the shop that suggested replacing the rack also suggested replacing the P/S pump.

3rd Generation

sounds like the wheel bearing, try jacking that side up and turning it the way it grinds and turn the wheel over by hand, it also could be the brake dust shield rubbing on the rotor..
