3rd Generation First time oil change DIY = oil pump damage?

I change the engine oil by myself one week ago. But after that the oil pump broken. I go to MIDAS, they ask for 1000 for repairing the Timing belt and the oil pump. And now everything seems ok again.

But I still afraid, I refill the engine oil, the the oil level is a little higher than the full level (about 1 cm), I am just wondering is that the reason cause the oil pump broken? BTW, the car shop said the timing belt broken first and then it cause the oil pump broken.

And it is the first time I change the engine oil, if the oil level will cause serious problem, I will let the car shop do it next time.

Thanks for your help!

Depending on how long you let the engine 'rest' after you start it and when you look at the dipstick, the oil level might change a little.
I have heard that you should start the engine, let it run briefly, turn the engine off, open the hood, pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert, and then observe the oil level mark.
I wouldn't think 1 cm too much would be significant... Level could vary slightly with the temperature of the oil ... but probably nothing to worry about.
Did you get timing belt and water pump replaced and oil pump... anything else?
Local dealer here quoted $700 for timing belt and water pump.

How many miles on the timing belt? They can and do break due to age. The belt powers the oil and water pumps. If it broke both pumps would stop turning plus the engine would quit. The belt could have wrapped around the oil pump pulley causing damage.

Over filling will oil should not result in any issues with the oil pump. The oil is drawn out of the pan by the pump through a tube. The oil system has a bypass valve that will prevent excessively high oil pressure.

My camry is almost 130000 miles, I change the Tbelt when it was 100000.
$1000 for this job sounds a little crazy, but how can I do. I tow the vehichle there, they said it seems like a Tbelt damage, and ask for $588. But after strarting the job, they called me and said finding the oil pump broken. Wow, $1000 then. I hope I am a mechanic here, I hope everthings going better.

And thanks for your reply!!
