4th Generation Lowering and Shock ???

My last post was the starter wouldn't crank the engine but thanks to the help of Toyota Nation and family the car is back up and running.

I been neglecting to replace my suspension all my shocks are blown and rattle over bump clunk clunk clunk. So my question is with a TRD lip kit on how low should the camry be dropped?

Does anyone know where I get a package deal or combo shocks and springs. Coilover are expensive so sticking to the the basic. What do you suggest?

1.25, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 drop? input appreciated for those who have the TRD kit installed. But even if your car is stock just dropped post some pics to. Thanks

i believe tokico makes a spring strut combo, were waiting to see how it is with another member. other then that ud just have to mix and match. there are 3 things u have to consider when doing this.

1. personal perferance in ride hight. u have to decide how low your comfortable with going and ur local road conditions. for me, after having a car that was pertty low, nearly 2 inches i like having a little higher ride so i dont have to worry about steep entrances/exits and speed bumps.

2. ride stifness, if ur lookin to get a stiff tight ride then stiff springs and shocks are the way to go, somthing like eibachs and tokicos. this will also have alot to do with ride hight since some of the stiffer springs have less of a drop.

3. comfort, mostly has to do with shocks. the 2 main ones ive seen are tokicos and KYBs. after having both i can say the tokicos are much stiffer and the kybs are slightly stiffer then stock. but u can have good handeling and a somewhat comfortable ride with a stiff spring and a softer shock liek KYBs. thats the setup i have and i like it, but i also like a stiff well handeling ar which i would get more with the tokico shocks.

of course theres always coilovers if u want to get the best of each world cept comfort and practicality.

htech and gr2 for me and its not LOW enough nor are the 17" rims big enough.

If i could do it again i think a better/more sporty set-up would be tokico and tein stech with 18x8 rims on 225/45-18 tires. Some fender work probably needs to be done but it'll be better than wishing you had done it differently. Trust me- i know.

I have also thinking about it for a year. I think to drop her (camry) for 1.5/1.6 inch because of the many speed bumps here and having a loaded back when i go on a camping trip.

I have thought about some options (what you maybe can use):

1. Drop it only on the front with a stif setup and use a rear sway bar.
- i don't know it looks okay
- You use old shocks at the back......
- I don't know the rsb is enough at the back.
(if it is not okay you can always drop the back later)

2. Airride system ....you can adjust your height when you see a speed bump:
- Expensive and You have a compressor at the back
- i dont't know how the ride feels.
- i don't know if it is a good option for daily driving

comfort is realy bad? (k-sports/d2 in most comfortable position)
why not practical?

it is my third option because of the height can be adjusted....i don't know how ...must the car be on a jack to adjust height for the camping trip?

well comfort for most is really bad, some people judt dont care. however, coilovers are not practical for anything but show and race. anyone who thinks otherwise either drives somthing else with coilovers on which the application may be different then the camry, they have glass smooth roads, they just have no real concept of practicalitly if they have never needed to be practical with the suspension, or they just dont care and will put up with the harsh ride and very low ride hight because of the performance and visual gains.

bigbird and ONE_to_HATE what is your height setup on your camry that is pictured in your avartar.

Shock brand:
Springs brand and height:
Rim Size/Brand:

I brought the TRD kit but haven't installed yet so since you guys already have everything installed do you mind helping me out with the ride height and all that. my shocks are all blown soo i am going to change everything all at the same time.

bigbird i am going for that type of look you have pictured on your avartar i don't want to go too low that i hit the entrance and exits or steep driveways i just want it low enough that the wheel well gap isn't eyesore when i add 17's or 18's I am probably going for a thicker tire no low pro just because the road condition in MA varies sometimes smooth to crappy potholes.

Shocks: GR2

Springs: Tein H-Tech

Wheels: 17x7 eBAY.

Tires: Falken Azenis 215.50.17

Ride: Its cuttin' it really really close to stock (hate it) - actually when I had my Camry on the stock springs- the rear was actually LOWER than when I had the H-Techs put on. The ride quality is just beautiful- if you're not planning to go fast and just in it for the looks- ur best bet are these.

Bigbird i believe is rockin' 225/45-17 tires - but don't hold me to that. Feel free to correct me.

I am not planning to go fast just for looks i want the wheel well gap not to show as much.

since you guys recommended KYB Shocks i'll probably get those but for springs I am not sure between the H-Tech and S-Tech Teins

what is the difference between the Tein H-Tech and S-Tech which one would be lower?

The S-Tech's are for more of a sportier look than the H-Tech's. The S-Tech drop more than the H-Tech's.
