95 camry tach wire

I am in the process of installing a remote car starter in my 95 camry. I have been able to find all the wires I needed from bulldog security and 12volt.com websites. The only wire I am missing is the tach wire. Both the sites say you can find it on the coil, which makes sense, the problem is I cannot find it

If you know please let me know

Black wire.

On the 4 cyl. motor the black wire is at the check connector located on the rear side of the passenger strut tower. On the V6 the black wire is at the ignitor located on the drivers side strut tower.

Heres a scan I made of the wiring info from DEI:

do they have the wiring info on DEI's site somewhere? i've yet to find it and that seems to be much more complete and descriptive to me than bulldog's wiring guide

I don't think so.

I got the wiring info from a friend. The shop he works at carries stuff from DEI so they have the software.

Im curious, can you take pics of what your install looks like? Specifically where you tap into the ignition switch under the dash. Im hesitant to start attacking mine..

The 12V, ignition, and starter wires are tapped off the 12 guage wires on the bottom of the steering column.

I wouldn't mind taking pictures for you, but I cannot do that because I don't have a digital camera. It's very straight forward though.
(the following instructions are for a 95 camry V6, not sure how it will change for other models)
There are four bolts that need to be removed at each corner of the "dash" under the steering column. Then remove the coin holder by pressing the sides in at the bottom. Removing the screws in there will reveal another screw, take that off, the "dash" should fall away, and you now have your ignition wires exposed. They should all be in a cluster with some kind of rubber wrapping keeping them together, I cut this off to give me access to the wires. I also removed the covering off the steering column so I could see which wires I lead from the ignition, but you might not have to.

The wiring diagram can be found here (bulldogsecurity.com):
http://bulldogsecurity.com/New%20Wir...oyotindex.htm.

I tested all the wires using a light tester. The tach wire is located behind the drivers side strut for the V6 and behind the passenger strut for the "four banger"

Then it's just a matter of taping into the wires. I just 18 guage "tap-in connectors" from radio shack, but I suggest using 16 gauge (or 14, whatever the wires are there). It was really too snug and tight with 18.

i have that, trunk doesn't work though

I have the Bulldog security remote start. It was quite simple to install, even though it took me 4 hours in 50 degree weather. But it worked fine. It only cost me $50.

But i have a problem. I have everything working except the trunk button. It says that i can buy the extra wiring harness for the trunk (becuz it did not come with the original packaging). I was going to buy it, but the i went to a local shop. They said that i can't install the trunk harness becuz i have a "pull cord" trunk release. He said i would have to have an electronic trunk release for it to work. He also said that if i wanted it to work i would have to have a custom job done.

Is this true? I hope not, cuz i haven't had my trunk button functioning for about 1 1/2 years now. And i need it! Thanks for any help.

(Sorry this was a novel)

You need a trunk release motor / silenoid and a relay.

I am not having any luck finding the black tach wire located at the drivers side strut tower by the ignitor.

I found a black/red wire which is alternating current from the tach, but I haven't found any black wire in that location.

Could someone please help me find my ignitor

That sounds wonderful, thanks.

In regards to your trunk release, I have heard it's quite easy to do. Just run some wires to your trunk and mount the release motor, aka soleniod (you can probably find one at a car wrecker)
