Question Is this true?

Is it true our cars take a special kind of red coolant made by toyota. If so how much does it usually cost because my car is in need of a flush badly.

Thanks for any help.

NO!

toyota is trying to convert everyone to Toyota Red, but you dont need it ... its just optional

whatever you do, dont let them mix their Red with the universal Green, because it will sludge up!

i would stick with universal Green so you dont have to purchase from Toyota only (which is what they want)

Thanks for the help guys!

Also what is the easiest way to flush the coolant on the V6. I was looking at the drain plug and it looks like it hasn't moved in decades. lol

take rad cap off

start car

turn heater on to high

let it warm up

take drain plug out

let drain while you fill the top with water (ie a hose)

drain till water coming out is clear

shut engine off

put plug back on

fill with water or rad flush

put rad cap on

go driving with heater on high

repeat steps above as many times as you like

fill with coolant

top off as necessary

^ i have seen the same radiators use nothing but green .... Toyota red did not become standard until recently, so what you said is BS - not to mention they are both ethylene glycol based

dont let brand loyalty blind you - Toyota is not the only company in the world that knows how to make coolant

Toyota's red coolant is NOT a recent change. They have used their red coolant for a long time, at least since the early '80s. It is better coolant for aluminum engines. Toyota water pumps usually wear the bearings out before the seal starts leaking. It is easier on the radiator and engine, too. Christ, it's $4 more a gallon????? It only takes a gallon on most Toyotas, it's worth it!

Um....
#1: Most dealers it's $19.99
#2: Toyota has done away with 100%, it;s now 50/50 mix, so you need 2. Unless the dealer has the old stuff in leftover stock.
#3: Picked Red up at NAPA last month. Not Toyota brand, but still red, for $16.49 for 1g 100% coolant.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll shop around and see where I can get coolant for the cheapest. I actually have some coupons for the local toyota dealer so I might give that a try.

I use only RED in my coupes!! A mechanic, (that was Toyota certified) recommended it strongly, when I first aquired the 96. (he wasn't employed by Toyota)...I don't worry about a few extra dollars when it comes to my Vehicles!...especially the engine mechanical!!

I guess It comes down to who, u want to believe, and how much one loves ones YOTA!!
