Canada rpm questions

I've been searching for a few days, and have not been able to find anything thus far.
I've just recently got a '92 camry after rolling my jeep. When starting cold, the rpm's are really high, over 3000, until it warms up, then drops to 1000ish range. When driving, it seems to run between 1500-4000 or so. Is this normal for a camry? The other strange thing that sometimes happens is when coasting, the rpm needle will jump between 1000 and 2000. When I apply a bit of gas for a few seconds the condition disappears.
Now on my jeep, this could be a sign of a tps going on an inline 6, but for the camry, I have no clue. Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

is it a 6 or 4cyl? its possible its the Idle Air Control valve(IAC). all my camry v6s have always had a high cold idle but 3000 is a little high.

Thanks for the response. It is a 6cyl. The IAC, where is it located exactly, and what does it look like? Sorry. Unfamiliar with the engine.

Thanks. As well is when driving hitting 4000rpm normal? I've been used to driving a lifted jeep, so I'm finidng it totally differentin driving it. Just not sure what is considered 'normal' and what isn't.

when you say u let off the gas and the rpms go up a bit maybe it could be a dirty throttle body?

I think:

Cleaning the iac (search this forum....many solutions)

Or

vacuum leak. ....Air hose or something like that. You can use foam to detect the leakage......or breakcleaner(i don't like to use it)

For an example, say coasting down a hill and I take my foot off the accelerator. Rpms will keep 'jumping' so to speak between 1000 and 2000 rpm's. If i give a bit of gas for a few seconds, it'll stop, but comes back if I coast again.

Will search how to clean the IAC. Issues I think are possibly connected.

I wouldn't use brake cleaner to search for a vacuum leak. When sucked in to the engine it could destroy the O2 sensors. In addition, brake cleaner is non-flamable. The engine can not burn it. I have never known it to happen (probably because people don't use it for this application), but if the engine sucked in enough brake cleaner, it could in theory hydrauloc the engine, destroying it. If you have to use some spray liquid, use an O2 safe carburator cleaner or throttle body cleaner.
