Big Brake Kit Upgrade or Rear Drum Conversion to Disc Brakes? HmMm...
As far as my stopping power on my CaM, all i have are some high end rotors and pads. Though i'm planning to upgrade my front to a Big Brake Kit, would it be better if i converted my rear drums to disc brakes? Can i have your opinions? oh, and for you comedians... I can't do both. LMAO! i know someone is bound to say something like that if i don't say this now. LoL!!!
by the way, which one would give me more stopping power? any evidence?
Here are some hints...
- I might either get the STOPTECH BBK or the K-Sport BBK.
- leaving the rear as is, which are drums
- lets say i have the BBK, how much would the rotors cost when its time to change them?
or
- I might convert my drums into disc brakes. High end rotors, pads, calipers.
- how much would the parts alone cost?
- exactly what parts will i be needing? (calipers, rotors, pads, brackets, ...?)
some of the shops i've been to only mentioned a few of the basic parts, while other shops mentioned parts like.... "ABS lines, ABS hydraulic parts, etc"
that's where you guys come in, maybe you can help specify what parts i'll be needing. Oh, and don't worry about the labor cost, i have some connections. Thanks peeps

considering your bhp/whp probably isnt that high, i would just do a rear disc conversion
most of your braking comes from the front, but you will have plenty of stopping power with the OEM-size rotors assuming you get nice rotors and high performance pads

I know you said that you can't do both, but I just want to throw this out there. Feel free to ignore it if you want.
You could change over to the V6 brakes, which have larger front brakes and rear discs. You could pick up the major hardware (calipers, caliper mounting brackets, rear disk backing plates, proportioning valve) at a junk yard and then buy the rotors and pads new. The reason I would suggest this is that because you can get the majority of the parts from junk yards you can save a lot of money.

i honestly cant see how spending over a grand for stoptech brakes is worth it on a near stock car(from what i can tell). if u were gonna go heavy into modding and race a little then yeah definatly BBK. but if it were me id try to snag a copy of the ericsol brake caliper brackets that allow u to run the supra TT rotors. they are really hard to find but hey, u may get lucky and someone may make copy of theirs.

From having experience doing the drum to disk to rear bbk, it has its high and lows. Do you need all that stopping power...probable not. Like bigbird said, if your going heavy on modding its worth it. The reason why i did it is because i have a set power number which im trying to reach. Plus i think just getting the front bbk and drums in the rear will look stupid...just an opinion tho. If your wondering about the parts list to swap the rear drums to disk i can tell you exactly what to look for. Took me FOREVER to find a salvaged gen 4 v6 cam in decent condition.
Heres what the Ksport bbk's look like....FYI make sure the rims you have now have the correct offset if you do decide to do those or spacers are needed
IMHO having a BBK up front and drums in the rear would just be sad... I would either do full v6 brakes or wait for the TT brackets to possibly be made again.
LOL, with the price of Stoptech's (I know cuz I own them, lol) I would rather slap in a v6 and get rid of that 4 banger, and have spare change to do rear discs....
Ask yourself, Can you afford 1700 bucks for front brakes??
Like I told GrkBallaG, at least it will stop faster than it goes!!! HAHAHHA, sorry George.

And the K-sport ones are ugly as hell.
Im a baller so im the exception to the rule, plus i love my brakes and i would never give them up.
