purge solenoid - p0466

hello all, recently my CEL came on, so i go down to autozone to have it checked. it pulled a code p0466 or something like that, but i remember the guy checking it and saying it was a purge solenoid. where the hell is the purge solenoid on my 97 ES300. so its and xle v6 1mzfe i believe. but prior to this(about 2 weeks prior) the CEL the p0446 showed, but went away on its own. so now its p0466 purge solenoid. anybody have any inputs?

TIA
Charley

I may be way off but I believe that the information at the following link is pertinent:
http://www.bba-reman.com/content.asp...NEXT_DTC_P0445 .

The overriding point is that this may not be the purge valve itself but anything in the EVAP purge control circuit. Even if this doesn't apply directly to your ES300 keep in mind that the code covers the entire circuit, not just one part.

hmm... i dont have the slightest clue about this. the guy at autozone told me to check the purge solenoid, he wasnt 100% sure that he located it, but told me to remove and clean out. i dont trust many from autozone, but again, he seems to know more about this than i do.

kep, so you are telling me to remove all vacuum lines related to the evap and check etc?

i just went through my P0441 and P0446 on my 99 solara v6,
i replaced my charcoal canister, which contains all the valves such as purge valve, vaccum valves, etc.

the charcoal canister is under the car, right behind the gas tank, in between the two rear wheels. took me more than an hour to replace, only held by two 14mm bolts, and can slide out from the passenger side out without taking exhaust or control arm off.

i topped off my car at gas station everytime to round off to the next dollar and squeeze a few more miles, not knowing the excess gas that i pumped in after the pump clicked actually vapors to charcoal canister, soaking and shorten life of the charcoal canister.
there is also a TSB or recall in regard to the 97 98 camry v6 on the vapor/emission system, where the dealer replaces the charcoal canister free of charge if you have extended warranty i think.

Pretty much, yes, go through the system looking for a fault. It might be electrical, mechanical or vacuum oriented. The list on that link is not specific to a Camry so use it as a guide, not instructions. I suspect that the system is fairly similar across companies but there may be a component or two more, or less.

The AutoZone guy's suggestion is a good one. Pull the solenoid and inspect it. If that isn't real easy maybe check some of the other components of the system that are easy to check first. If you had a disconnected vacuum line or a cracked vacuum line it might throw the code that you are getting. I tend to exonerate the cheap easy fixes first and I try very hard not to replace an expensive part unless I have tested it first. Though sometimes the part is cheaper than the cost to test it so then, yeah, replace the part.
