3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Clutch started to chatter 800 miles shy of 200K. I don't know if I should have it replaced or move on. I am the original owner of the 94 4-cyl. coupe and have become attached to it. How much should a clutch replacement cost?
its not a hard job at all if you have some experience. You can move the transmission to the left far enough to change out the clutch. There's no need for yanking out the engin or anything.
I'd get a price locally on getting the clutch replaced if you're not in a position to do it yourself. The job will cost less than just the sales tax on a new Camry here in Nazi Jerky and you will likely be able to get another 50 to 100k at least out of a car, the history of which is known. In your place, I'd get some prices, do the math, then make my decision.
FWIW
YMMV
must have been a custom swap, there was no coupe in 93 or a 5 speed v6 coupe, a real shame he got rid of it. that is a real shame but like the others id keep it and replace the clutch. its hard to replace a camry coupe.
Hmm... I knew that. Well it was a 5-speed V6 coupe, so yeah it must have been a swap. It was the first year of the coupe, so I guess it was a 1994. My bad.
Thanks for the replys. I would say that it makes sense to replace the clutch. If I were younger and it was a bit warmer I'd consider it. I've replaced clutches in my driveway in the past on RWD vehicles but never a FWD. I still need to ponder the situation.
My decision also got a little harder. A 95 5-speed coupe is available locally with a lot less miles. I just need to decide what to do.

If you can wait 2 months til spring, just do it in your driveway, it's a good workout, and you can put the money saved into investment, tools, next car or gas money.
Took the words right out of my mouth

The question to be answered about this other car is the maintenance history. Unless you have that, you would be buying a 13 year old "pig-in-a-poke", mileage not withstanding.
