3rd & 4th Generation (19921996 & 19972001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
heres the story
im enrolled in a 2 year toyota t-ten class that ive been in since september, and for our final projewct for next year we must each totally rebuild/build an engine and have it run in our "project car"....naturally i have opted to get a 92-93 camry/es300 equipped with a 3vz as my project...i have heard about the ability of the vz series engine to handle a good amount of power, and that the engine is factory detuned...i then considered the use of a 5vz 3.4l 4 runner block with the heads of a 3vz camry engine....this however brings to mind the issues of will 3vz heads be compatable with a 5vz block, which transmission would bolt up and be the optimum choice for the camry, will it bolt into the engine bay relativky easily, and how would it all wire up?
i believe milt was talking about something with a 5vz a while back, but im not sure....
does anyone know of any potental with this idea?
i apologize if this is a strange idea, but it intrests me in a potental for my project camry.
any help is appreciated as always!
-corey
if you take a look at the 3vz and 5vz head gaskets you will see there is no way to make them mate up, there is no way to make a hybrid between the two.

i do believe milt said the 5VZ wont fit in our cars ... i think that was his goal before the 3MZ hybrid
Its not that it won't work. It's just the guy that Justin aka Wraith sent me to was a and is a fucken idiot. I done all the research for him, sourced all the parts and the idiot still sat there with his thumb up his ass.... I don't even like to think about that whole ordeal anymore...
The 5vz fits, just the way it fits the trucks that get swapped from the 3 to the 5, get a camry that has the 3vz to begin with.
The e153 fits the engine....

On a side note, if you think taxes are high in MD, try living in California.
I wanna see a 2gfuckenR on a gen3.... shit, maybe that will be on my second coupe.... lol
but for real...it wouldn't be that hard with access to a full shop and machinery to make engine mounts and brackets....just use the 2gr axles and make up new ways of mounting them up...there's no end to possibilities when one has access to a machine shop and good welders...

Cause that has been done already..... 3.3L
thank you very much milt....you are a huge help as always
i had planned on from the beginning to get a 92-93 camry with a 3vz as original equipment, as i knew if i wanted to swap in the 5vz it would be easier to already ahve a car mounted for the 3vz
its beginning to look as if this could become a reality....
and i knew you already had the gangsta 3mz/1mz hybrid in your coupe, and i wasnt about to do something that had been done already
