4th Generation Timing Belt Kit and Water Pump

Does anybody know if any of these are a good deal and if they are reliable parts..

I called the dealer and they want to charge me $475 to change the belt, spring for the tensioner and the water pump...I"m seriously thinking on doing it myself on my 98 camry.

Thank you...

Koyo, NSK and GMB are well known brand names. Have used these types of kits off of Ebay with good results (although no experience with these particular kits).

For discount aftermarket parts and a selection of timing belt kits also try www.rockauto.com.

Suggest picking up a new spring at the Toyota dealer (under $2).

Since you will have access if you have the time and skills might replace the cam, crank and oil pump seals.

Pickup up some kind of service manual on this engine before starting the job. Not too difficult but a lot of tight spaces and you want to make sure you reinstall the belt correctly.

Depending you your accumulated mileage, you might want to just replace the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner spring (get from the dealer). If you get the timing belt covers off, you can inspect the upper idler pulley ... no oil leakage, smooth operation.
... Suggest that you download and read the online I4 Mechanical section for one or two assembly details... particularly before you put the cover back on. ... Nothing particularly complicated ...
... I tore up the perimeter seal/gasket on the upper timing belt cover when I took it off ... Got a new one from the dealer.
Basically, the only difficulty is familiarization with the job ... doing it the first time.
Check the forum search tab ... lots of discussion available on this subject.
