3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i was wondering if the tokico hp series and the kyb gr2s are the only standalone shock absorbers avaliable for the gen4. (im 99% sure but wanna be 100% sure)
also are there any inserts that could possibly fit into the stock housing and are the same length so that I could just throw them into the stock housing and mount it up to my gen4 (like the koni yellows or something) even though its not made for the gen4 camry (maybe the gen3 koni reds) ?
if the gen3 reds are the same length and same diameter, i can cut my sealed housing and drill a hole at the bottom for the insert right ?
thanks guys =]
ps. i know about the tokico blues + springs combo and the ksport/jic coilovers and all the details about them because i have tokico blue with intrax and whiteline FSB/RSB. all i want to know are my questions stated above~

STOP telling people that they are coilovers
those are the Tokico HP Struts with Tokico springs .... which are on backorder (ask rebel8ball, he tried to purchase them recently)
venom, thanks for not telling me to search and for the link to the FAQ =p. which i read right before i posted lol. for some reason i didn't see the bilstein so thnx. but on bilstein's website, they showed that they had no applications for the gen4 camry =\
so now basically my qusetion is that do the gen3 koni red inserts fit into the gen4 strut housing if i were to remove the stock internals. or are there any other koni inserts made for other cars that have the same diameter and same length. i know they don't make anything for the lexus es or solara so.......
the reason im looking into koni inserts is because koni can service ur struts and valve them. and plus they're adjustable.
i KNOW there are coilovers. i know konis are expensive and i might as well use the money and get coilovers. but i still want to know if the gen3 koni reds will fit and if there are any other car's inserts that will fit. btw bigbird, im not gettin all mad scientist on the struts =p
like i said, i have tokico blues/intrax lowering so theres no use replacing. the only thing to do is to move up in the world by getting coilovers. but since i don't have enough money yet, i feel that i should experiment with the adjustable konis. i heard konis are freakin good and i wanna try them. and also try different spring rates with them since they are adjustable. (but since they don't make any for the gen4, i was juss wondering if the gen3 inserts are the same size)
thanks a lot guys =]

if you want my honest opinion, i would stick with the Tokicos .... or get Coilovers -- the Koni's arent worth the money, when you could get coilovers for nearly the same price!
if you keep spending money on trying different struts, youll NEVER be able to afford good coilovers, so just save the money for a few more months until you can get the extra $200-500
the rear end strut cartridges should be the same, but the fronts should be different (i may have that backwards, dont take my word for it)

are u trying to put the inserts in the factory struts or in the toks? cuz the gen4 struts are non servicable and and it sounds like ur trying to fit inserts in them. i know the gen3 and 4 suspension is different in the front, not sure if the dimensions of the struts them selves are different as well.
i can tell ya, this is the first ive ever herd of someone trying to put inserts in a sealed strut. but if ur able to do it then more power to ya. the adjustablity is a real plus i know.
since i have the tokicos on my car and the stocks sitting around, i think im gonna try to put them in the factory ones. im just wondering if koni will know the dimensions of the gen3 vs. gen4. i might hit them up when i have some time. yeah they're sealed struts but i'll see what i can do.
if they're diff in the front, maybe i'll just do the rears for now and have tokicos in the front and koni adjustables in the rear lol =p ;]
alright venom. i may just save my money and get some ksports. iunno. got till summer to decide. just wanted to start off early on my options. so i won't screw up AGAIN. cause last time, i didnt' do enough research, so i got my current setup which costed over 1kUSD (because i had to replace mounts, boots, etc etc) and i was just depressed that i didn't just get ksports for that price lol

they advertise the product, but they DO NOT have them in stock .... rebel8ball and i both tried Rhythm Motorsports (www.rms-usa.com) for the gen 3 and gen 4, as well as several other dealers
