3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
When I am getting the exhaust work done aka headers and new muffler. Should i keep the catalytic converter off? Would i gain any extra hp with it being gone?
Doesn't anyone or does everyone just keep it on? I am just curious because a friend of mine told me too and i wanted a second opinion on whether it would matter
The Camry is a car that I can rip out someone's pride, stab it, beat it, and completely bash their egos, and it's so ridiculous that the person comes back with a hysterical laugh... ROFL They got trainlengthed by a Camry that in their mind, was a 18 sec car.
Removing or spending money on an after market cat will do nothing for a 5s-fe, maybe 5 horsepower and it is bad for the environment. Really, you are not going to make a noticeable difference in horsepower removing it so you might as well keep it on.

none of it is gonna really help. but the cat is one of the few places on the 5sfe where u can pick up some power up top. highflow cat is better then no cat, wouldnt u agree? however the exhaust may become a little more raspy and ull loose some back pressure which may cause a small loss in low end power.
honestly, id only screw with the cat if u have the money and are thinking of going further with the car then just adding a few exhaust components. if u did a larger catback for example ud want a higher flow cat to make the cost of that catback actually worth it. other then that its a waste of money IMO.
