00 camry orange lite on dash came on indicating brake lite out

My grandpa has a 00 camry. His brake warning lite came on. Not wheel brakes the light brakes. I checked around the entire car and everything pans out. blinkers, brake lights, backup lights, liscense plate lights. This light comes on when the first start of the car and you touch the brake pedle. Thats all it takes for this light to come on. Manual says check stop lights in the back and all of them work. please help if u can.

Did you check the center high-mounted brake light?

i did replace that 3rd brake light up in the window and its still giving me that yellow car icon on the left of the dash. The icon looks like the car with the lines coming from the back of the car look. the manual says that if brake pedle is applied then its a bad bulb somewhere on the back. car runs good and lights are all working. Im thinking maybe is the fluid or brake shoes or caliber might be sticking. But i dont know how that is related to the icon on the dash. would the brake light lite up if the shoes or calipers are sticking. thanks again for helping me. i will check my grandpas fluid tomorrow. I dont think its a short cause the lights all around the car work fine.

Some of the lights on the back are dual filament bulbs. Turn the parking lights on and look which lights are on. Then have some or use something to push the brake pedal down. You should be able to determine which bulb is out.

even though all the bulbs may seem to be working when theyre turned on, have someone step on the brakes and then youll see the bulb that has blown

Did you check the light on the corner of the tails (194 bulb)? Cause mine was out and it took me a while to figure out there was a light there.

The warning system works off of resistance. If one of the sockets and/or its bulb have developed enough rust it can activate that light. Also, the Light Failure Sensor itself may be going on the blink. Either of these are far fetched for a year 2000 Camry but they are possibilities.

i will check his car again today. on another site they said to check brake fluid or his brakes could be getting low and might need brakes. is this one true. i had my dad there and we checked the brakes together.

Turn the parking lights on and look which lights are on. Then have some or use something to push the brake pedal down. You should be able to determine which bulb is out. im gonna try this today.

If the brake fluid were low, the light that illuminates would be the same one that illuminates when you apply the parking brake.

ok first has he had a burnt light lattly and was replaced with some bulb you boulght at a local parts store?if yes replace that same bulb with a oe(resistance is different even if it works, the light on the dash works on resistance in the bulb, wire)if not then open your hood and on the left you will see wires all ties up in a loom and tapes up,open this and see if any wires are ccut,(the opening and closing of the trunk so much bend these wires and they brake),if not see lamp failure sensor, its located in the trunk in the left behind a body part ,by the fuel door, open this up ,smell it if its looks or smells burnt then replace it,you would need the old part number cause many will plug in but they wont all work,(ie with or with out spoiler)see this this is a know problem on camrys and it will be one of these

ok no burning smell from the yellow warning thing in the trunk. wirelooms look good. i think its the bulb i changed. its probably not sending the signal back to shut the light off. he does use the trunk constantly. but there is no binding of wirelooms. friday im gonna go to the dealer with him to get a toyota bulb for the 3rd brake light in window. it has to be it. thanks again for all your help. im glad to find this site from dodgeintrepid.net.
thanks again for your help and i will be using this site in the future for help. have a great weekend

sincerly,
