tried to replace battery in 1999 camry but alarm goes off
I am trying to replace the battery in my 1999 camry but when i connect the terminals to the new battery the car starts honking. I didn't even know my car had a factory securikey system and have never used it before. The manual says I should be able to press the button next to the steering wheel for valet mode to bypass the system but that doesn't work. I would appreciate any help anyone could give me.
If it's the SecuriKey+ factory system ... same as 98 Camry ... send me a PM with your email address and I will send you the instruction manual pdf ... approximately 4 Mb.
... Which manual do you have at this time?

dc_98_cam can you also send me the SecuriKey instruction manual? i have trouble trying to get my key to lock the car using central locking since last time i locked myself out when the remote stopped working and the key didn't disarm the central locking.
My car does this all the time when I just disconnect the negative terminal. When the alarm goes off, I just press the unlock button until the alarm turn off. Actually I do that every time the alarm goes off.

Be sure that the battery inside your key remote unit is making good electrical contact ... and is not old or weak.

Its not the remote i'm worried about. I want to use the car key to activate the central locking. It used to but now all it does is lock the driver side door instead of locking all the other doors as it used to. I just purchased a new remote today from Toyota so the remote isn't the problem here. Thx for the Securikey manual anyway... hopefully i can fix a few problems with it.

There might be a physical problem someplace...
Does the master lock button ... on the door panel arm rest... both driver side and passenger side ... lock all the doors when pushed?

master lock button? i only have a button on the drivers side (arm rest) that allows me to lock and unlock all the doors, that might be the one you're talking about... maybe a loose connection inside the driver door between this button and the keyhole?

So ... if your single master lock button actually allows you to lock all the door locks... then the problem is probably within the wireless door unlock circuit.
Do you have the online repair manual? You might take a look at the wireless unlock circuit ...
Which vehicle and engine do you have?
