Egr 0401 Light Went Out

Hey guys, a week ago my check engine light came on. So i took it to autozone and they told me it was p0401 egr valve insufficent flow. So I read up on it here and then just went and fiddled around with the egr and modulator hoses. Then i noticed the next day the light wasnt on anymore. Good luck? Im just wondering why it went out without me doing much?

it was probably just stuck closed due to carbon deposits and your jiggling jarred it loose....if you're lucky, it won't come back on for a while

The guys and gals of Autozone usually clear the codes they read...? If they are doing their job anyway.

Quit that! You weren't "playing" with it, you were "fixing" it!!! The fact that you got in there and fiddled with it is great. Most folks just take it in to a mechanic and have them fix it.

+1 for Eye8pussies. Now is a great time to research cleaning out the EGR and Modulator valves. Then when you have time, go ahead and do it. If your state has pollution inspections, do the throttle body, IAC valve, and PVC valve as well. Do the Sea Foam trinity (vaccum line, oil & gas) and you will probably be in very good shape.

Spray chemicals may not be enough. If it doesn't get clean you need to manually/mechanically remove the carbon without damaging anything or dropping chunks into the bottom. Also, don't forget the modulator and the vacuum hoses from the EGR to the modulator (mine was plugged almost solid). Also, don't forget the opening to the throttle body. No rest for the wicked--is your engine generating an excess of residue? Why? Just fixing the EGR may not be enough.
