3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hello, I am picking up this 1992 Camry V6 hopefully today (Monday). It's dark green, 150K miles, with new rack and pinion, 4 new struts, 4 new pads, rotors, and calipers, and 4 new tires. The interior is leather, and it has been taken care of.
I'm no newbie to cars. I am big into Mustangs, and have a 2002 Mustang GT. Check it out at http://www.mikefordmustang.com.
Anyway I obviously want the best performance, gas mileage, comfort, security and safety. The car has a cd player in it, and I'm gonna throw in my MTX 12" woofer to start. This car will be my daily driver for a long time, so I would like to get it perfect. I have a BiXenon HID kit on my mustang (you can see pictures at the site), and would like to get an HID kit for the Camry as long as it doesn't look cheap or crappy. I also plan on tinting the car as well.
As far as performance I don't expect it to be fast by any means, but I also would like to squeeze a few more ponies out of it if I could. Would you guys recommend a K&N drop in filter or an after market system? I don't want to spend much $ on performance, as I have a fast car already.
Also any tips or suggestions are welcome. Like I said I'm new to the Camry world, but I know that they are great cars and I will be very happy with this. I will post pictures when I pick her up! Thanks in advance
welcome homey , and the v6s are pretty good and as far as intake i say get the drop in and take off the extra plastic inside the bumper that what i did way cheeper and sounds great
Hey I forgot to say I want to get a remote start / keyless entry / alarm for it. Don't want to spend a lot of money. Anybody have experience with this one or know any information about it? http://commandoalarms.com/itm30032.htm
Also let me know if you know of a better solution. Thanks.
welcome to TN man. fallow thoes cheap mods and do a few other things and you can definatly squeeze some nice power out of that engine. best thing is the Y-pipe
For the HID's, they will not work (correctly) in a Camry. The way our headlights are designed, it scatters the light more then the son. Everyone will be blinded from it. I tested it, so I know.
As for a K&N filter, it won't really gain anything. And as others have said, exhaust system will be the best $/hp. But the V6's have a good amount of power as it is, so you should be semi happy.
BTW, if you need parts, let me know. I'll have you go to Toyota of Stamford and get a discount (I know the guys, and will hopefully be working there come late March).

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
Thanks for the replies so far guys. As far as the Y-Pipe, I will probably stay away from that simply because my Mustangs exhaust is REALLY loud and I think 1 loud car is enough. I read that this car has 185 hp, thats pretty impressive! I plan on doing what Blackhawk said and throwing in a K&N drop in, and taking off the extra plastic pieces.
Does anybody have some dyno #'s for something similar to my car with a Y-Pipe? Just wondering. Also has anybody heard of that remote starter / alarm that I mentioned above? It looks great and I think I'm going to order it.
good choice for a daily driver! i know i love my camry, even though its only a 4-banger. a 12" MTX is decent enough for the camry. mine works well powered with only a 100 kenwood amp. i cant comment on the remote start you referenced, but i have an avital (http://www.avital.com/products/ap_as40.htm) that works well. thought it would be nice to have some added security and 2-way capabilities instead of the bare-bones model i have.

Sounds good, he sounds like a trust worthy person! Sounds like a plan, I'll get the intake to start, throw some tints and a system in there and be happy for a little bit. Thanks a lot guys, Toyota Nation kicks ass!
i couldnt locate any SRIs on ebay, only CAIs which are expensive. but what ya might as well do is jsut remove the stock airbox and mount a 3" cone filter. cheaper and just as good.
