3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm not sure whether its the cold weather that I'm having up here in Toronto or it's my battery. But for the past week or so, my wipers has been wiping very slowly then its usual quick wipe on the windshield. This usually happens when I do a cold start but even after warming it up a bit; it still does the same thing. Could this be due to my battery starting to fail?
Note... the battery has been there since the car was made which is in 97. I think...
Any ideas?
Thanks

hmm.. for the most part if not all, the battery holds the charge. have you looked into the wiper motor itself?

It is under the black plastic at the bottom of windshield.
If you rev engine up to 1000rpm, do the wipers go faster?
If the friction on the wiper blades is too much, it will be slow (too clean, or very dirty)
BTW go to Costco and get a battery, it is about time. I replaced both of mine last summer and fall. Costco is about $65, 100 month warranty.

Yeah i know its about time for my battery change.. you wouldnt want to image how my battery looks right now haha.. even though I do clean it at times with baking soda
uh no I havent tested it out when revving over 1000rpm to see if it goes faster... its just very odd.. it only happens at sometimes.. usually as mention on a cold start but today even though it was cold outside.. it worked pretty well like originally...

Wipers will be slow when voltage is low in the system due to electrical loads. like rear window defrost, head lights, HVAC Blower set to high, and so on.

my wipers works perfectly normal even with my system bumping, headlights and fogs lights on.. but since you need to replace your battery, it wont hurt to see if the improves it..
