3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I wanted to share a repair I did last year. The rear door seals rotted at the bottom, and there was lots of ****y stuff that would get on shoes etc as you get in the back seat.
I ordered new door seals, and changed them, to find the ****y stuff still getting on them a month later. It turns out it was sealant for the rear door panel. I took off the panels and cleaned that stuff off, it seemed to not really be necessary, as I don't notice extra noise or creaks without it.
I used goo-gone or goof off, the orange stuff to remove the crud.
Everything is fine now and I didn't ruin the new seals.

We should make a quintet.
I cleaned mine off a year ago with some good old elbow grease.
Guess what?.........................It's back to haunt mt rear passengers as they enter and exit my chariot. LOL

I had this same problem on the rear doors (96 LE) about 4 years ago and took it to my dealer. He said that it was a know problem and there was a new sealer and stuff and they fixed for free. btw car was not still under warrenty.

damn stupid dealer, I asked specifically about that, it seemed wrong to me to have to fix it, and they quoted me $400 just to replace the door seals.
I have had other problems with same dealer, didn't tighten timing belt cover enough, 2 bolts came loose, one gone, and they insist I don't have a differential when I showed the owners manual to have them change the fluid in it!
